Mac Mini Memory (Part 2)

About 5 months ago I wrote about my unsuccessful attempt to add more memory to my Mac Mini. Today I gave it another shot, and seem to have been successful. Below, I share a few pieces of information that you might find helpful if you’re interested in performing a similar upgrade.

OWC

This time around, I sourced my memory from Other World Computing. These guys seem to be attuned to the needs of the DIY Mac owner; their site not only clearly indicates which parts are matched to which specific Mac models, but they also offer model- and hardware revision-specific instructional videos. Both things are hugely helpful to the Mini owner, since the internals of that little aluminum box have changed quite a bit over the years.

Parts

Their parts also seem to work properly. In my case, the memory I installed was 2x2GB 204 pin SO-DIMMs, manufactured by Micron, part no. MT16JSF25664HZ-1G1F1. My computer, which proved to be a little picky the last time around, seems to be happy with this upgrade. Since the additional memory has made it much faster to jump from app to app, I’m happy too. If you’ve got 90 bucks lying around, and are running a 1GB Mac, I’d recommend this upgrade.
