Today I was reminded that there are two ways to use one’s intelligence during a discussion: One can try to ascertain the truth, or one can try to win the argument. People who routinely engage in the latter are boring, people who confuse the two are foolish.

Thank you. I just love it when someone I respect verifies something that I have been saying. I won’t bore you with the details, but my FIL thinks just the opposite-winning equals right. Where does this leave the (IMHO) useless (or perhaps-counterproductive) college debate clubs?
